Queen Latifah is a musician, award-winning actress, record-label president, author, entrepreneur, and Cover Girl. She has earned a Golden Globe Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Image Awards, and a Grammy Award as well as nominations for six additional Grammys, an Emmy, and an Oscar.
All of this success has readied her for the role she’s most excited about-host of her own daytime talk show, The Queen Latifah Show, which she regards as the perfect platform to showcase her range of talents and unique ability to connect with and entertain people.
Only 19 when she was anointed hip-hop’s first lady of rap with the release of her highly successful debut album, All Hail The Queen, Latifah went on to release multiple Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling albums, including The Dana Owens Album and Trav’lin Light, and in 2006 she became the first hip-hop artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She has enjoyed similar success in television and film. Her first TV series, Living Single, ran for five seasons and still airs in syndication. After making her screen debut in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, she has appeared in nearly 40 feature films, including the critically-acclaimed Living Out Loud, alongside Holly Hunter; The Bone Collector, starring Denzel Washington; and perhaps her best-known and most-acclaimed role as Mama Morton in Chicago, alongside Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere.
Queen Latifah proved her global box office appeal as a leading lady opposite Steve Martin in Disney’s hit Bringing Down the House, which she executive produced. She also starred in Hairspray, The Secret Life of Bees, Last Holiday, Beauty Shop, and Joyful Noise as well as the HBO true-life drama, Life Support, which she also executive produced and for which she received a Golden Globe award, a SAG Award and an Emmy nomination. She also reprises her animated role as “Ellie,” the wooly mammoth in Ice Age 4.
Queen Latifah is also a powerhouse entrepreneur. In 1993, she and partner Shakim Compere formed Flavor Unit Entertainment, a hugely successful production company. The Miami-based studio develops emerging talent, manages artists, and produces film and television projects. It currently has several films and television series in production, including VH1’s Single Ladies and the upcoming CW reality show, The Star Next Door.
In her spare time, Queen Latifah has written two best-selling books on self-esteem and designed a successful clothing and beauty line for HSN. Her next big adventure began when she made her debut as host of The Queen Latifah Show, which she is producing with Shakim Compere and Overbrook Entertainment’s Will Smith, Jada Smith, and James Lassiter.
