Everyone knows that the Sundance Film festival is the helm for the newest films to touch the market. The top directors, producers and celebrities fill the streets of Salt Lake City, Utah to see whats the hot films coming out. 2015 the talk of the first week seems to be “Dope” a film produced by (Mega Music Producer) Pharell and Mogul/Entrepreneur) Diddy.
“DOPE” is a coming of age comedy/drama for the post hip hop generation. Malcolm is a geek, carefully surviving life in The Bottoms, a tough neighborhood in Inglewood, CA filled gangsters and drugs dealers, while juggling his senior year of college applications, interviews and the SAT. His dream is to attend Harvard. A chance invitation to a big underground party leads Malcolm and his friends into a, only in Los Angeles, gritty adventure filed with offbeat characters and bad choices. If Malcolm can persevere, he’ll go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.
The film that (rapper) ASAP Rocky made his acting debut in sparked a bidding war after the premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend. This Rick Famuyiwa directed film ended up being bought by Open Road Films for $7 million, beating out fellow film studio, The Weinstein Company. We would defnitely say that was a successful debut for all parties involved.
