After serious consideration in the 2017-2018 season the (NBA) National Basketball Associations will advertise corporate logos on the NBA jerseys giving the NBA ad space of 2.5 square inches to sell to investing companies to be displayed up and close during the NBA games. This will build a lot more revenue for the NBA and each team. The teams will be responsibly for selling the ad space in which they will be keep 50% of the sponsorship investment. The NBA will be the first US professional league to sell advertising space of professional team game jerseys. There was a test run during the All Star game where Kia had their logo in clear view in the ad space on the players jerseys.
“We’re always thinking about innovative ways the NBA can remain competitive in a global marketplace, and we are excited to see the results of this three-year trial” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. This will bring in approximately $100+ million to the league. This move will be very similar to the International overseas leagues who have been advertising on professional players jerseys for years. This will also bring a lot more attention to the companies logo during the game, which will allow it to be seen extremely more on television.
